The University of Maine (also referred to as UMaine, Maine or UMO) is a public research university in Orono, Maine, United States. The university was established in 1865 as a land grant college and is the flagship university of the University of Maine System. The University of Maine is one of only a few land, sea and space grant institutions in the nation.

Academic

UMaine offers 90 undergraduate majors and academic programs, 85 master’s degree programs, and 34 doctoral programs. Opportunity for all members of the University of Maine community and its constituents is a cornerstone of our mission.

Umaine is featured in multiple 2018 guides to best colleges, including The Princeton Review and the school is one of the nation’s top 50 green colleges by the Princeton Review.

Campus

UMaine is located on Marsh Island between the Stillwater and Penobscot rivers in Orono, and is approximately 5 miles from Bangor. Maine is home to some of the country’s most spectacular destinations, including Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor and Mount Katahdin.
